Civil & Utilities

Protect communities and critical utility and infrastructure assets with Hebel’s range of fire certified and acoustic wall solutions.

Designed for the utilities and infrastructure sectors, Hebel fire and acoustic wall systems are high performing, proven solutions that are fast to construct without the constraints of pre-cast concrete installations.

The Hebel PowerShield High Performance Fire Wall System has been developed to protect tunnels, power stations and substations from petrochemical fire damage up to 1300oC. The Hebel PowerShield Acoustic Absorption Wall System, with the same fire protection performance as the standalone fire wall system, is also an exceptional resonant noise cancellation system that can be tuned to deliver a resonant barrier for frequencies under 150Hz.

Where noise reduction from industry, major roads and rail corridors is required, Hebel SoundBarrier is the ideal solution; extremely cost-effective, lightweight and easy to install when compared with pre-cast concrete. Added to this is the option of customised patterns at comparatively low cost through the versatility of post-production machining.

Fire Walls

Hebel’s PowerShield High Performance Fire Wall Systems are certified for hydrocarbon fire exposure, protecting power utility and infrastructure assets, such as road tunnels, against petrochemical fire. Suitable for critical asset wall enclosures and ceilings in tunnels and to protect support structures of the wall and ceiling systems.

Designed to withstand heat up to 1300°C, the PowerShield systems achieve high fire resistance performance when exposed to the Hydrocarbon Modified (HCM) curve for 2 hours (Exova Warringtonfire Fire Assessment 28255-04 RIR). When exposed to cellulosic fire, the systems achieve an FRL of-/240/240 (for horizontally installed wall panels up to 6000mm high) in accordance with AS 1530.4-2005 (Exova Warringtonfire Fire Assessment 24648-07).

Tested and proven for thermal and acoustic performance as well as fire resistance, the systems can be used for new structures or retrofitted. Column protection is achieved by encasing the steel member with the Hebel PowerShield panel. For walls in electromagnetic fields, non-inductive panels can be supplied. Panel thickness ranges from 150mm to 300mm in lengths up to 6 meters.

The PowerShield systems are easy to install where there is restricted site access and does not require heavy lifting equipment, a distinct advantage compared with concrete.

Hebel Systems

Acoustic/Firewalls

An advanced tunable sound reduction system for power utilities, major roads and rail corridors, the PowerShield Acoustic Absorption Wall System delivers a resonant frequency barrier under 150HZ, far lower than other traditional alternatives. In fact, performance has been achieved with an absorptive rating of 0.95 at 100Hz using Helmholtz resonance principles. Able to eliminate resonant noise at a close distance from the source, the system provides an opportunity to utilise adjacent land that would otherwise be considered unsuitable for development.

The PowerShield Acoustic Absorption Wall System is constructed with horizontal, steel reinforced tongue and groove AAC panels mounted to vertical steel columns in concrete foundations. A second skin of 75mm PowerPanel is connected to the PowerShield wall using steel top hats. These panels have a calculated horizontal and vertical air gap between them, acting as slats which face the noise source. The positioning of these panels can be adjusted to address specific resonant frequency of the project.

In addition to this system’s high acoustic attenuation performance and tuning capability, it also provides high level fire resistance when exposed to the Hydrocarbon Modified (HCM) curve for 2 hours and withstands heat up to 1300°C. When exposed to cellulosic fire, the system achieves a -/240/240 fire rating for AS 1530.4-2005.

Hebel Systems

Sound Barriers

Hebel SoundBarrier is a highly effective acoustic wall system that produces significant reductions in noise levels from industry, major roads and rail corridors with a high level of design flexibility.

The standard system consists of galvanised steel columns in concrete pier foundations. The caged steel-reinforced Hebel SoundBarrier panels are placed horizontally between or against the columns and held in place by galvanised steel angles or plates. At just 25% the density of concrete, the system is fast and easy to install and negates the need for costly precast moulds and large craneage associated with pre-cast concrete installations.

At around two-thirds the cost of comparable concrete systems, Hebel SoundBarrier delivers multiple advantages not only in terms of project cost and efficiency but also in visual appeal. Hebel factory routing allows for cost effective and flexible design choices. Whether large areas of free flowing design or small areas of simple architectural shadow lines or intricate variable depth routing for a truly sculptured look, Hebel SoundBarrier panels can be routed easily and without the costly limitations of precast moulds and heavy construction requirements. The system can be designed to accommodate feature bays or stepped to follow the grade of the road providing an uninterrupted wall of constant height. With an extensive choice of acrylic coating colours available, a wide range of effects can be achieved. The system can also be used with other materials for functional or aesthetic relief.
